In-depth analysis of yarn composition and characteristics of seamless fabrics

June 12,2023

Regular yarns used on seamless fabric are: nylon,  covered yarn, AB yarn, cotton yarn(short fiber elastic is small ),  polyester , spandex, etc.

Specialty yarns but rarely see, like copper fiber, bamboo fiber, model, seaweed fiber, polypropylene, anti-bacterial yarn, recycled nylon/polyester, etc.

1. Nylon

It was invented by the famous American chemist Carothers and his scientific team. Polyamide is mainly used in synthetic fibers, its most outstanding advantage is that the abrasion resistance is higher than all other fibers, 10 times higher than cotton abrasion resistance, and 20 times higher than wool, slightly adding some Polyamide fibers to the blended fabric can greatly improve its abrasion resistance; when stretched to 3-6%, the elastic recovery rate can reach 100%; it can withstand tens of thousands of bending without breaking. Nylon filament has a very wide range of applications in the seamless industry. The nylon thickness is usually shown by denier (D), we seamlessly use 20D 30D 40D 50D 70D 80D 100D 140D, relatively speaking, the thicker the yarn is, the thicker the fabric will be.

2. Covered yarn

Single-covering yarn means that one long fiber is the core and the other long fiber is wound in a unidirectional spiral. Usually, spandex is made of core, the skin is nylon, polyester, etc. Sock machines and seamless underwear always use kinds 2012, 2030, 2040, 3070, etc. Double covering yarn means that one long fiber is the core and covered with two layers of long fibers on the outside, wrapping direction opposite, so the twist is smaller, even nothing. Usually used on rooks. Commonly used 14070*2, 21070*2, etc.

Nylon-covered spandex usually is 2010, 2030, 2040, 2070, etc. Polyester-covered spandex is 2028, 2045, 2055, 2075. In the specification, it can distinguish polyester-covered yarn from nylon-covered yarn. Polyester-covered yarn the final number is five, depending on the specification of nylon stretch yarn. Covered yarn can divide ACY into mechanical-covered yarn, The difference is that Air-covered yarn, the outer fiber filament, and spandex yarn are drawn through a certain type of nozzle at the same time. After high pressed air is regularly sprayed to form a regular network of points in the yarn. The fabric feels soft and smooth.

Mechanical covered yarn is made by continuously twisting and winding the out filaments around a uniformly drafted core spandex yarn. It is twisted and twists are measured in "TPM" (twist per meter). The fabric style is flat is its main feature.

3. AB yarn

AB yarn has another name siro yarn, siro spinning out yarn is a composite spinning. Because it has two coarse yarns, so sometimes called it AB yarn. Siro is made of two-spaced whiskers that are fed into the drafting zone of the yarn, drawn separately, and then twisted into a yarn. Simply put, it is two roving yarns spinning a fine yarn, so that the yarn has the nature of a strand, less hairiness. AB yarn is being applied in more seamless clothes, a fabric made by AB yarn has a quick-drying function, and the fabric flatness is very good, and high strength. The fabric of AB yarn shows two color.

4. Cotton yarn

We commonly make seamless fabric using rayon, it is a short fiber. The main varieties of cellulose or protein and other natural polymer compounds of raw materials through chemical processing spinning, such as cotton-type viscose staple fiber. Its specifications are similar to cotton fiber. length is 35mm. Slimness is 1.5~2.2dtex. It can be purely spun on a cotton spinning machine, or blended with cotton or cotton-type synthetic fibers (such as polyester, nylon, etc.). Its characteristics are good dying, high brightness, and color fastness, comfortable to wear, thin alkali resistance, moisture absorption, and cotton close. Disadvantages are not acid-resistant, poor resilience and fatigue resistance, and low wet mechanical strength. It can be purely spun on cotton, and also can be with polyester and other chemical fiber mixed fabrics. Seamless goods by rayon, its quality is smooth and soft, but its fabric strength is not high, and poor stiffness.

5. Color yarn

Color yarn is also applied in more seamless products, color yarn is just the yarn that brings color, mostly polyester, dyeing is not colorful, so commonly using color yarn to make words, or make jacquard outline lines on clothes.

6. Spandex

Spandex is an elastic fiber, Academic Name is polyurethane. It has higher elastic, able to stretch 6~7 times, However, it can quickly return to the initial state after the tension disappears. The molecular structure is a chain-like, flexible, and elongated polyurethane, which is enhanced by linking it with hard chain segments. Elastic fiber is divided into two categories: One type of polyester chain class; one for the polyether chain class. Polyester elastic fiber antioxidant, oil resistance is stronger; polyether elastic fiber mold resistance, detergent resistance is better. Spandex elasticity is excellent. And the strength is 2 to 3 times higher than latex silk, and the thread density is finer and more resistant to chemical degradation. Spandex has better acid and alkali resistance, sweat resistance, seawater resistance, dry cleaning resistance, and abrasion resistance.

7.Copper fiber

Copper fabric is a new functionality fabric, It is expanded from silver fiber fabric. That is to say, there was silver fabric first, and then there was copper fabric. This is because people first found that silver fiber fabric has the effect of antibacterial kill, so it is widely used, but silver is a precious metal, in the beginning of the textile silver element has not been able to meet the standard, and the silver ions in the textile people wear for a long time will slowly enter the human body, but the body can not smoothly eliminate the silver ions. Copper ions in the human body can be quickly eliminated through metabolism, so gradually by copper ion textiles instead of silver ion textiles. Copper ion textiles are mainly used in the lingerie industry, which can effectively sterilize, deodorize and clean themselves, and are therefore being used more and more widely.

8.Bamboo fiber

It is a naturally grown bamboo fiber extracted from cellulose. Bamboo fiber has good air permeability, instant water absorption, strong abrasion resistance and good dyeing properties, and it has natural anti-bacterial, anti-bacterial, mite, anti-odor, and anti-UV functions. Bamboo fiber is often used in seamless underwear, like bras, nightgowns, panties, nursing bras, and other intimate apparel. Bamboo fiber makes a very soft and skin-friendly fabric, very comfortable to wear.

9. Model

Modal fiber is a cellulose fiber, the same as rayon, is a pure man-made fiber. Made from wood pulp from the shrubs of Europe after a special spinning process, modal products are now mostly used in the production of underwear because of their inherent good softness and excellent moisture absorption, but their fabric stiffness is poor. Modal fibers meet the requirements of the ECO-TEX standard and are physiologically harmless and biodegradable. It has particular advantages for textiles that come into direct contact with the body, and the fine denier fibers give knitted fabrics comfortable wearability, a soft feel, flowing drape, attractive luster, and high moisture absorption. For this reason, many warp and weft knitters have started using this fiber for daywear and sleepwear, sportswear and leisurewear, as well as for lace. The fabric is particularly ideal when combined with other intimate apparel so that your skin can always feel dry and comfortable.

10. Seaweed fiber

It is a man-made fiber, It refers to the fiber made from seaweed acid extracted from some brown algae plants in the ocean. Seaweed charcoal fiber is a fiber made from carbonized seaweed charcoal, which is crushed into ultra-micro particles and then blended and spun with the polyester solution or nylon solution to be drawn and processed. This fiber can be blended with natural cotton or other fibers, and the spun yarn will have a far-infrared radiation function. At present, the use of seaweed fiber to seamless products in Shanghai is not very popular, but because the fiber itself has many advantages, I believe it will be used more in the future.

11. Polypropylene

PP is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic. It has high impact resistance, strong mechanical properties, resistance to a variety of organic solvents and acid and alkali corrosion. Polypropylene has a wide range of applications in industry and is one of the common polymer materials. Polypropylene is not used to seamless products, polypropylene clothing made of soft texture and light fabric, and perspiration function is obvious. Polypropylene clothing is not high temperature resistant, so the production process can not be high temperature ironing.

12. Anti-bacterial yarn

The yarn has an antibacterial function, the conventional antibacterial yarn has silver fiber antibacterial yarn, and copper fiber antibacterial yarn. At present, antimicrobial yarn is mainly used in underwear and T-shirts seamlessly, and also has a good use in socks textile, and antimicrobial yarn was widely used in cloth masks during the epidemic. The products made with anti-bacterial yarn have the function of anti-bacterial and deodorization.

13. Recycled nylon/polyester

it is quite environmental, and the other it can recycled. The material is broken down more quickly by microorganisms than other materials. After decomposition, the material will be completely converted into water, methane, carbon dioxide as well as organic waste, without causing any pollution to the environment.

Different yarn has different characteristics, many garments has been deeply involved in the seamless industry for many years, and we are always looking for quality yarns, developing quality fabrics, and making ideal products to give back to consumers.
